About Suffolk

Suffolk is famous for its Heritage Coastline, ancient towns and villages. There are a whole host of places of interest to see, beautiful historic mansions and country houses, vineyards, wind and water mills, splendid gardens, monuments and antiques.

Seaside promenades, sandy beaches, busy ports, and gentle and glorious countryside, lazy rivers, bird rich marshland all await to surprise and delight the holiday maker.

Twist and turn down country lanes, stopping awhile in the old market towns or the pretty villages with their half timbered houses and thatched roofs or to admire the splendid churches.

See the mediaeval wool town of Lavenham and especially the Priory, England’s best example of early timbered buildings.

Previous visitors have left their marks especially the Romans, Saxons and Danes. The local museums are filled with artefacts to tell of their passing. Modern attractions like West Stow Anglo Saxon village, recreate ancient times. Discover the secrets of the ancient ship at Sutton Hoo.

Visit the 16th Century Moot Hall at Aldeburgh, Snape Maltings and 19th Century Malt Kiln, now a vast complex, housing a year round programme of concerts and recitals, including the Aldeburgh Festival. View the 14th Century beamed interior of Wingfield College and explore dozens of Church and Chapels. The Cathedral, Abbey ruins and gardens at Bury St Edmunds and the Georgian Theatre are also well worth a visit.

In a more modern vein, go to Newmarket, racing capital of the sport of Kings, visit Oulton Broad, go boating, sailing or yachting. Try the local brews in the many country pubs.

Suffolk is one of the finest holiday destinations in the country. A magical land with something for everybody to enjoy.
